Undergraduate Student Presents Research Poster at Land Grant Energy Conference

Civil engineering undergraduate student, John Slone, presented a research poster titled, "Role of Remining in Mitigating Impacts of Legacy Coal Mines," at the 2012 Public and Land-Grant University Conference on Energy Challenges: The Next 50 Years, held April 29 - May 1, 2012 at The Ohio State University.

John is a Student Research Assistant in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geodetic Engineering and is working on a research project sponsored by the Ohio Coal Association.

The 2012 Energy Challenges Conference brought together public university, industry and government leaders from around the country to discuss the evolving role of the university in solving substantial questions about energy in the 21st century.   The primary goal of the conference was to advance the role of our public and land-grant universities in solving our energy problems now and in the future such as:

  • Wind, solar and renewable energy
  • Biomass and biofuels
  • Shale energy
  • Smart Grid
  • Transportation innovations
  • Building efficiencies
