Meet Our Coordinator
Dr. Tarunjit S. Butalia, P.E., serves
as the program coordinator for the statewide Coal Combustion
Products (CCP) extension program at The Ohio State
University. Butalia is a Research Scientist in the
Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at OSU. His technical specialty is the
characterization of natural and synthetic materials and their use
in technically sound, environmentally benign and commercially
competitive applications.
The transfer technology project overseen by Dr. Butalia is an effort to move CCP technologies and processes from the research and development phases into the marketplace. When treated and applied correctly, CCPs can be put to multiple productive uses ranging from highway applications, mineland reclamation, to agricultural applications.
Dr. Butalia works to develop and promote standardized practices and procedures acceptable to private sector end users and government regulators. In addition, he coordinates the dissemination of information and makes presentations while assessing the markets for new CCP uses.
Dr. Butalia obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (with Honors) in Civil Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, India. He went on to earn a Master of Technology degree in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India and a Doctorate in Engineering from The Ohio State University. Dr. Butalia has been involved directly in several CCP research projects, and has authored, presented and/or published more than 20 technical papers.
